Just looking for anything helpful that anyone can give me to improve this painting.
Specifically, any ideas on lighting and "staging". I'm not horrible at painting single figures, but I have no idea how to include them in an environment.
Details: Original at 3000x3000 pixels. Done in both Photoshop and Painter. Reference photo used for pose (included link at bottom of this post).
Thanks!

And here's my ref photo:

The arm's a little too straight, woulden't you think ? I think it's generally well done, I like the trees. |

Hey I like your style. It reminds me of a stained glass window. I had a friend who was big into painting 40K Space Marines. I don't know why I wrote that. I would put something in the background to kill all that white, maybe something that will bring out the colors of the Space Marine more.

I actually like the colors
Crits (Please don't take offense)
The white, though you were going for the fog thing, makes the picture look a bit unfinished. The highlights on his armor are making him look a bit flat, kinda like puffy paints, and his face is a bit blurry/unrefined.
I dig those cracks, and I like seeing Warhammer 40K stuff on the board. Keep it coming!

Hey, thanks for replying! I appreciate the advice.
I'll work on beefing up the arm and perhaps giving it a slight bend, although I sorta like it straight.
As for the colors, I'll try to desat them just a tad.
Regarding the background, I'm not sure what to do there, which is kinda what I was looking for critique and advice with.
Flexible Elf: Don't worry about me taking offense at your crit. I asked for it, so I was ready for anything.
Thanks for the help!! |
