First, you need to specify an account in the URL. Secondly, you cannot link images from Angelfire.

OK, I know I am new but I am going to say that I think there are a lot of good qualites and some weak points . I like how you gave the pic a background but it doesnt work well the bring out the character. Notice how spooge did not take away from the character with his background . He used a lot of dark dynamic colors. The horizontal and verticale lines just dont work well here sorry dude. Maybe of the lighting was changed and the highlights brought down froma scream??? |

Well, first of all, you used a rendered lighting effect. Don't do this again because it tends to look really...rendered and not condusive to a tight picture. Second, the light you DID render seems to have no effect on the girl, as though you painted the girl, then made the background, but forgot about her entirely. Third, I think the background needs to look way more dynamic. It's just black and white with some not so attractive lines all over the place.
You guys may like the 'woa! the lines are flashing and making weird paterns' feel, but it's very hard to look at.
Hope you understand me |

Hmm. The new background, while less distracting than the old one in some ways, isn't a huge improvement. Aside from the fact that her legs got all blurry and smudged, it's still, in essence, a flat plane that doesn't tie in with the girl at all.
Try coming up with a realistic scene. Standing in front of a wall of odd lines and moire patterns isn't the most interesting thing in the world... perhaps do like Spooge did, and stick her in a hallway... or on a street between a bunch of buildings... something realistic.
Then once you've decided on your setting (and BEFORE you start drawing), decide what the lighting will be like, where shadows will fall, etc. The way you colored the girl, there would be a light source somewhere in front of her, slightly above her head. Keep this in mind when drawing the scene! And pay attention to where shadows would fall as well.
As far as your colorization of the girl goes, it looks pretty good for the most part, but there's something funky going on with her boots and sword. Maybe try to clean that up a bit, and get some of the original line art back in. |

The abs arent proportionnal to her body and besides, it doesnt look good on girls when you can see the total defenition of their abs. Leave it simple with the least lines possible.
Hope this helps

Unless the back ground is displaying some brown(?)light, she looks like she forgot to shave the inside of her legs.
If you want her to look real, I would redo the image completely and just use the outline provided as a guide line on a seperate layer overtop of the new image you start to draw.
I'd say I like the color scheme, but I'm getting board of all the different renditions of this girlie by everyone lately. Not that the shes bad, but, she is getting redone like a new Backstreet Boy song on a local radio station.

jHof: if the black shadow looks like she hasnt shaved how do i make the shadow for the inside of the legs then?
Seph|roth: yeah i showed the pic to some friends and they said i over did the abs too. A teacher of mine said to shade it more lightly, will this help?
thank you,

Wicked, As I was reading down this post, I was going to suggest you start over and take it one step at a time.
But you already did. Good move.
Don't try to use black for shadows or white for highlights. Use a lighter version of the color for highlights. Or a differant color, if the light source is a differant color.
The brush strokes of the shading and higlights are too visible. Try useing a larger brush to create smooth graidents, then go back and define it more after.
There's more I could say, but I think that is a start. Keep at it, and keep experimenting. You wouldn't believe how bad the stuff I first was posting was.

Coming along well! Here are a few things I notice:
I would work on those abdominal muscles a little more, it's sorta looking as though she's got a trilobite inside her stomach ^_^
I think that if you go with what Seraphire said and don't use black for the shading it will really help. Try and make it look as though the muscles are a part of her body and not something sitting on top of it.
Purple lips are groovy

Here's a picture that I hope will help you out some. Look at the way the shading is done to bring out the muscles on this woman, she never uses straight black or white. You also might wanna observe how the muscles around the stomach and legs are formed.

Thanks for the help Seraphire. Im not sure what you mean by gradient. I use corel photo-paint 8 right now and the only gradient i saw is in the fill tool. If this is right im not sure how i would use it though, but i couldnt find a gradient for a brush.
heres an update on teh pic. Im going to post 2 versions with different shadows.

man will i ever post a picture right the first time hehe.

Hard work is what it's all about Wicked!
I had the same problem with abs a while back, you're not alone ^_^
It's horrifying isn't it? Scares me to look at the poor girl. Looks like she fell into a vat of black ink, hehehe.

You can use fill tools to do gradients. But what I'm saying is to take a large airbrush with a low opacity and create a transition of color.
I don't use Corel, so I don't really know exactly what tools you have.
Don't try and define the abs yet, or anything for that matter. Start off by trying to round out the legs, and face and arms. Get the overall tone down first. Try and make her round, without any features. Then, when you feel that you have that right, go back and start bringing out features.

I really want to thank you guys for the help. This site has opened my eyes to a new way of viewing things. This picture might not include everything you guys told me, but trust me i learned alot from what you guys said and i know ill be using it on my next work.
I finished coloring the girl as a whole. I did as you said. I used lighter and darker values of a color to make the shadows. It does look better.
Hehe now for a background. Im already sweating trying to think of what im going to do.
thanks again,
