Hey Cos -
It's a good start, and I like the monochromatic color palette.
The lighting on the couple does not seem to exactly correspond to the light source, which I'm assuming is the moon. In addition, the moon itself feels like it's placed a little awkwardly. It's cropped by the edge of your canvas, and since it's one of the major elements of your piece (right now it's the lightest value, so your eye will go to it), it's a little abrupt to cut it off like that. I would try to get the whole circle of the moon into the composition somewhere. Also, compositionally, I'd try to avoid having the left-right symmetry you have now. You don't have to redraw the whole thing, but depending on your placement of the moon in the sky, you could have a more dynamic, less rigid composition. I think in general having one element on the left and one on the right, with another important element sort of in the middle can make your image seem sort of stiff.
I don't mean to abuse you - just wanted to mention a few things that I thought would make this cool piece a little cooler. Post it when you're done!

Thanks jenn I'll post it again at a later stage..
Francis, Thanks alot for your input with this I see what you are saying about
the moon and the composition, could be alot more interesting, I will try a few
things out with it and see what I get. Have to really start thinking more cos!...
Hey don't think of this as abusing me man, I definetely don't. This is exactly the
things I need to hear if I am going to improve, you're good at giving advice and I
appreciate you taking the time to do it. With the lighting, yeah I still haven't
figured out the lighting with the woman that well.. I'll post it up again when I get
more done to it. Thanks!
Hey Frost.. if you are out there I would appreciate your painting and lighting
advice with this bro!

The castle looks like the one in Bram Stoker's Dracula and also the one in the original Vampire Hunter D. Speaking of which, has anyone seen the new Vampire Hunter D? How is it?

Hey Cos, sorry for not having answered earlier.
Yeah, the lighting is different on the castle and people as mentioned... unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done about that... the lighting on the faces are good from that angle, but maybe making everything in the scene from the same light might make it seem flatter... the image strikes me more as a 'montage'-type, so... i don't know really. =)
I really like the guy's face... his squarish chin, and his lips seems to conceal fangs... nicely done! |

heya frost
thanks for commenting mate, not really sure what u mean tho..
bout the lighting on the castle, castle still looks like it needs
work so I don't mind altering it. With the faces, I figure there
could be another light source in the image or I woulda probly
made the woman much darker.. Im not sure what u mean about the
montage thing?? Glads u like the guys face, the chin was alot more
exxag before but I toned it down abit to look more realistic..
If u want to do like a 5minute paintover to show me what u mean
bout the lighting on the castle that would be cool.. think im
gonna bring the mmon lower and closer to the castle. Altho maybe
that'll look crammed..... Blllaaaaarrghhhh, hmm..
Thankyou Kat, was going for sumthin more moody this time..
glad u like it |

Heya Cos... here's my take on it. What I meant is that even though the light sources don't match up from the castle to the people... it still ends up being ok... I think..? =) I meant that it looks like a movie poster or add, where the people would be overlay to the background, a 'montage'.. (french term, sorry=).
What I tried to do here is make the lighting on their faces more local, as though there was a local light near their faces... although that light source is off screen. Anyway, I'm no Spooge, nor Fred, nor Micke, nor Joachim, nor Francis, nor... (sigh).
cheers bro! |

Whoa.
Cos, I think that's exactly what your pic needs - some stronger lighting on the faces. |

I really like the contrast in the Frost-version...hmm...I know it isnt supposed to be finished yet, but I think the guy looks to thin...am I right in thinking his right shoulder should be more visible?? ie, hes a little turned this way. I know his face is seen from the side, but if it does seem weird this way perhaps turning the head a little would help...
...just fry me if Im wrong, noone but mum ever said Im perfect!

I've been frosted fakk me man.. that is really cool Frost! you make me wanna cry..
(If u tell me this was a 5minute paintover then I might aswell hang up my mouse and
my bollox from a really big tree too.. I see how turd mine was looking now..
I understand much better what you were saying now.. like with the lighting from another
source thats off screen, like the way you lit them from beneath like maybe the guys
holding a lamp or something like that.. does make it much less flat. I like the
way u put the moon and the castle together as one element too, fits alot beter.
I really wasn't going for a montage look, think my values with them and the bg were probly
more dodgy than i realised then... k ima gonna try some stuff out with it..
Thanks for helping out Frost!
Tunisch mann, i think it probly need much more than that, but yeah I should go for it
much more with the lighting...
swedburg, i dunno bout which version u chattin about. The woman is in front
of him so u arent really meant to be seeing his whole body...

Cos: Thanks, but no, it took me much longer, as I was watching Malcolm In The Middle on tv simultaneously, =) but really, took me about 35 minutes. The image as it is now is way too dark ... I added an overlay layer to contrast a bit, but I think it's way overdone now... shit. I'm realizing that my mon at home is set too bright, so I make them darker.. anyway..
Sweedberg: Yes, the guy's face is perhaps a little too nicely perpendicular to the screen, which helps give it that montage look as well (right Cos?=)... the guy's shoulder well, it seems alright to me... the light is coming from mid chest level some 1-2 feet away, the moonlight is occluded by the head, so, I think it's ok. But yeah, it's not meant to be a masterpiece, but more of a help. =]
