Hi, my name is JoeyV and I work for a amateur coloring company called FrstyGrphix, based in SD,Ca. I fine that I seem to have a more realistic style of coloring things and I was wondering if anyone can help me develop a more liquid! or Bad@$$ style of drawing. Really like Liquid! SoulSaga and Bad@$$ did such excellent work on Crimson. Please give me some pointers, I think my colorings okay, but really want to head towards the above mentioned styles. Thanks.

P.S.
FrstyGrphix is slowly heading towards 1000 hits on its webpage and we are asking people to do a 1000 hits piece of work. If anyone is interested, we cannot pay you for your time and effort, but will give you full credit for the piece plus add a link to your site on our links page. |

Here's a quote from someone in another thread a while back. This reflects my sentiments on this subject. While I can't speak for the guys at Badass I'm sure they feel similarly about the subject.

Must learn .... NOT ...to color like Liquid!
While I know you mean it as a compliment, it really isn't. Instead you should really try to find your own artistic voice and interpretation of your world. Look at real life and study paintings for inspiration, but draw your own stylistic conclusions. If you make the goal of your life, to ape someone, be it in drawing or coloring, then the best you can ever expect to be is a 'good' copy of that person. Not much to strive for if you ask me. Not much of a career either.
This forum has so many advantages. One of them, in my opinion is that it brings so many incredibly talented yet diverse artists together in one place. If this board doesn't inspire you to find your own artistic voice of expression, than quite frankly do the world and yourself a favor and find another pursuit. You're better off doing something else.

Yep, my sentiments exactly. Right now I'm trying not to color like Liquid! or any other comic colorists. I admire their work, but if I want to succeed I'll have to have my own thing. However, in my learning process I try and mimic some things just to learn different techniques. I'd love any guidance Liquid! could offer in color theory sort to speak. Anything on ways to add form would be nice also. |
