This is my second attempt at painting myself. I used a mirror. Would be happy for comments and critique. Spent about 5 hours on it....I think. Lost track of time. Inspiration comes to me mostly from Rembrandt, Jason Manleys IWD stuff (surprise) and all good pictures posted on this wonderful forum.

Thank You.

Wow, I am quite impressed with it Simon.

I really like how you used the darker shadows on the right side of your face.

Adds a lot more impact to the painting.
Keep it up.

Wow that looks great, I'm so jealous of everyone in this forum. I want everyone to stop drawing and let me catch up damn it! Hehe.. :P

I like how you used all the really warm colors, I imagine it probably shows something about your personality.

Very nice.

Cool Simon!

It's got that painters-from-the-past look & feel. I really like it!
Keep it up with the great work!

Simon, that looks truly fantastic
Great job with the colours like on the ear
and eyes. The neck don't look right in some way, but othervise from that it looks great.

very nice indeed.

good form...good use of compliments for the light vs the shadows (light toward the red and shadows toward the green)

very cool

If you want to push it a bit more then try introducing some grays (will look like other colors like blues and greens when you put them on that palette)

you could also get away with one more value in the light as well...but that may change the mood of your pic.

keep pushing...

I want to see more of these.

Wow Simon, fantastic! I agree with Micke in that the neck looks a little "off" it seems to lack the value contrast that you've achieved in the rest of the pic.

Also, I really like how you've captured such a captivating pose of yourself.. it's almost spooky. Great work, you've improved leaps and bounds since I saw your last work. Keep it up my man!

That's really nice. I love portraits where half the face is dark!

Thanks everyone.

Jezebel: hopefully it does =)

Tanis: I like Rembrandt =)

Micke: Ill pay some more attention to the neck then!

Jason: I applyed a yellowcolored multiplyerlayer afterwards. Maybe it killed the different skintones. I will do more =)
alot!

Intuos: spooky? =) the key to improvement is Patience. For me atleast.

Deranged: Im considering side-whiskers ala wolverine =)

Plop: he has alot more forhead than I do though =)

Ramiranda: Not a cave but almost. I live quite isolated on the countryside spending to much time with myself. haha, and I love it! =)

I like it Simon , but as I said on IRC, and as Manley pointed out, the picture is just screaming for some grays/blues/greens

your layer addition technique works well...dont lose it...but a few clean strokes of similar value color variation and subtle greens and pinks and blues (relatively...not thalo blue or anything...just bluer or pinker versions of the same colors) added on top of what you have would pop it to the next level.
