I recently aborted an idea for an animated short about a Vampiric Gunslinger for lack of story and, upon a recent trip to the comic shop, I realized that a Vampire in the old West is not a new idea. but still the idea fascinated me. Here is one of my character designs. I would love to see other takes on this idea. I invite all to either comment and crit my picture or post your own.

CapnPyro, Thanks for the response. I was starting to feel a little paranoid as to why I was getting no feedback. I had never seen a Vampire in the Old West either and that was why I initially thought it was a good idea, but if the local comic shop near you is big enough, you can find that the idea has been done a couple times over. If not a vampire, an undead one all in black. I think there is even a role playing game with this as its theme.

You have to remember that there is nothing new under the sun. When you have an idea that you think is good, first realize that its probably not the first time anyone has ever thought of it. There's nothing wrong with understanding this little fact about any of your ideas. What makes your ideas original is not that no one has ever thought of them before, but how you put a special twist on it. You take an idea that probably has been thought of, then twist it and make it your own new and even original one...get my drift?

I don't think what you've got going here is all that bad. Sure the concept might not be totally new, but the style in which you portray an old west vampire is intriging. One wonders what the rest of his world looks like, what role does this particular vampire/cowboy play in that world? Breath some life of your own into the character. One thing that no one can ever think of before you is your own experiences and tastes in art. Hope that makes sence.

I like your work. Please keep posting.

That character kind of reminds me of my Opera Ghost pic I made a while back.

Thinking of the wrong movie there, Malorum...

And, Opera Ghost? Isn't that the "Phantom of the Opera" or is the Opera Ghost a cheap, non-union replacement?

Well,
if you read the novel Phantom of the Opera, the characters usually refer to Erik as The Opera Ghost...
