Argh. Finally got something decent happening for Francis' drawing;
I'm not real happy with either gun (there's something not quite right about the lighting..), and don't worry about the el'cheapo background, but again I'm interested in hearing what doesn't work and what could be better.
Francis' original sketch can be found here;
http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/006095.html
And just so I don't have to repost 4 versions this time, here's the FULL SIZED VERSION;
http://users.bigpond.net.au/sumaleth/suma_raitano01.jpg
**WARNING**
That full sized version is about half a meg. And it's -so- rough that it's almost scary. You have been warned.

Im still really new at giving crits on professional work...so i hope im not shiooting my mouth off *wink*
-Wonderful blue cast, i can see how it will provide some coolio separation...dynamic, i like. Looking fwd to seeing how u fill that lighting effect out.
-there's something funky about her left leg, even from that angle and the way it's bent back i still feel i should be seeing more of the calf and foot.
-perspective on the gun handle (her left hand) is a lil' off to me. perhaps that's yer gun prob? i dunno if u were speaking froma design or execution standpoint...and i only noticed it after looking at the huge-ass version.
-Is the pose supposed to take place with her floating between run-steps? cuz there is no representation of supporting weight on her foot. it's supporting a whole bunch of wieght, but it's not being represented in the pose. Even if u DO have it mid-stride, i'd suggest u plant the foot, it will give the figure a better sense of weight it think.
-if she's got both her guns drawn, why is the holster still full?
-the pose seems very dynamic. The figure protudes out of the image and has a beautiful curve to her pose...i love that. fantastic forshortening.
I think this is going to be a wonderful illustration, and i cant wait to see it finished. I hope i was of some help. Good luck suma |

Hey SUmaleth, i really love it, your version of Francis' drawing is on the top of my favorite list along with spooge one
The cast shadows are great and give a lot of depth and feeling to the picture. I have no particular crit, i just love it |

Hey Suma, hehe I like seeing the big rough version.
One thing that stuck out for me was the lips, wouldn't they be a lot thinner and go all the way around the mouth? the forms are those of closed lips but they should be stretched.
It looks good tho. At the res it was meant to be displayed I can't see many problems. there are some interesting textures on the guns. |

I think it looks very nice !
One thing I've been thinking of, why has everyone colored her as if she was running on a ground. In my opinion, those legs looks more like if she is jumping or something. . Hehe, just a funny thought. But, the drawing is very nice francis and your coloring too suma

Pak-Rat;
I'm glad you liked the image but you seem to have commented on the original sketch rather than the coloring. As mentioned, the sketch was by Francis, not me.
The image is also for all intents and puposes "finished" - I was after comments so I could get an idea on how other people viewed it differently to me, and so I wouldn't make the same mistakes next time.
Mime;
I'm glad you liked it!
Rinaldo;
I think you're probably right about the lips not being realistic. But I think it looks more interesting this way.
Joachim;
The question of what she's doing is a puzzling one. In the end I decided that it looked like she was just taking off from her right foot, so the toe was still touching the ground. Her other leg is way too far back for her to be in mid-stride I think.
I actually did quickly try it with the ground angling the other way with her right foot actually totally flat on the surface. It almost worked like that but looked like she was about to fall over.
Thanks for the comments.

Nice pic. I actually like the background a lot - matches the mood of the rain. Very cool!
Good lighting! This pic has a very cinematic feel to it.
no crit from me...my brain is not working right now..

Looking good. I also like the backround very much. It gives the image nice feeling of depth. Crit, hmm... dunno, maybe the watersplash under her foot is little too detailed.

Yargh! Freaking hell man, there should be a warning label on that chicks face when its close up. Far away she looks kinda cute in a screaming-im-gonna-shoot-your-face-off kinda way but up close she's got these yellow teeth with no gums and huge eyes and funky wrinkles and.. scary
I'm just givin ya hard time man, the pic looks awesome (especially the crazy texture details in the guns). The blending on her skin tones is really nice and smooth with good lighting, nice paintbrush look, i take it this was done in painter?

Vortx;
The "rain" was actually intended to be tracer fire from guns. But I got the angle -way- wrong and it does actually look better as rain.
Rhomb;
Thanks for the comment. I did think about trying to find some reference for the water splash but ultimately didn't. Probably should have.
Pryo;
The way I work is to have two windows open for the image - one zoomed way in at like 600% for painting in and the other at the "intended final size". I almost never really look at the zoomed version when I'm painting the image so it can often be a real shock at the end when I reach the end and look at the 100% version. This one was particularly horrific, although I got -exactly- the look I was hoping for on the real sized version and I guess thats what matters. (unless I decide to print it out..)
BTW, this was done in Photoshop, not painter.

Thanks all.

Nice work, man. I really like the lighting and the depth of field effect with the background. I have to agree with the face thing - damn scary close up!
Keep up the good work.

Nice Suma, I like that you actually gave her some lips. She needed something feminine besides the wonder bra she's wearing!
Great use of color. Hmm.. there's nothing to crit on this image because everything is so good. Envy envy envy. I want to be either you or spooge when I grow up.

This will, of course, be the last time I post the full size version. It takes away some of the magic I think.
Actually thats something that really impresses me about Spooge's stuff - even the full-size version of the images, where you can see each line and brush stroke, still look strikingly good.
Mine generally don't, although they do if I need them too. But that takes a LOT of extra time and usually means removing as much of the lines and brush strokes as possible. I would love to be able to introduce that quality into my quicker images.
