I forgot Norman Rockwell. http://www.paonline.com/zaikoski/rockwell.htm
I'm not going to bash everyone's pics, but I'm surprised how many listed current comic book artist and they don't list the artist that they got their style from. On that note, I think Art Adams is probably one of the most underrated comic artist out there. http://loneswordsman.com/aadams/
Let's not forget Jack Kirby, John Buscema, and George Perez also. |

Ooh, tough question (although one I seem to remember posted here a long time ago as well).
And the winners are;
Conceptual; Syd Mead (Doug Chiang 2nd)
Wildlife; Ray Harris Ching (the wildlife Frazetta)
Fantasy; Frazetta
Space; John Berkey
Comic; hmm, probably Kevin Walker
Early 1900's Illustration; Rockwell
Alien; Wayne Barlowe
3d: 3D Addict
Renaissance; always had a soft spot for Da Vinci although I can really go for any of the good artists from that period.
Charicature; Kruger
Landscape; Albert Bierstadt
Overall Fave Artist; Spooge
Runner-up; Syd Mead

Suma, Albert Bierstadt eh... how about that..
Okay.. mine in no particular order except the first one;
Patrick Woodroffe..
then Michael Whelan for Sci-FI bookcovers, Pierre Patel for landscapes, John Harris for his ability to draw vastness in simplicity, Andy Greenstun for his digital stuff, Glenn Keane for cell animation, but most of all Gary Dunnsteen for his craftsmanship..
and then some..

Danny; why the surprise at Albert Bierstadt?
And who are Andy Greenstun and Gary Dunnsteen (so very nearly anagrams)? I can't find anything about either on the net.

man, there's so many, but those I've been admiring the most up the years I guess would be:
Egon Schiele
Milt Kahl
Moebius
I haven't seen much from Leyendecker, and just bought his and rockwells books lately. But, I would say they are the best US illustrators from the 50's.
So many more....just can't come up with names. spooge kicks butt too though

favorite artist... hmm, maybe Da Vinci, for his all-around genius.
Then there's Albert Drer, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Constable, Mont, Dali (he's so wacky), Ilya Repin, some Russian 19th century realists, and that feller who had some heavy dynamics in his brushstrokes - Van Gogh.
for learning ...the usual forum gods.

Just off the top of my head,

comics: Mignola, Moebius, Charest, Sienkiewicz, Miller
Those Renaissance dudes were okay, too

hehe awesome thread.. Think we had a couple of ones like this not so long ago...but what the heck!
Phil Hale, Jon Foster, Mike Mignola, Duncan Fregredo, Kent Williams and ofcause Brom, Whelan, Parkinson, Howe...
anything that smells of fanatasy and I'm there....But mostly my influences are among the more graphical artists...

To pick a few that really inspire and amaze me:
Frazetta
Bisley
Glenn Fabry
Brom
Travis Charest
Mike Mignola
Jeffrey Jones
Masamune Shirow
Th. Kittelsen (19th century norwegian artist)
Joe Madueira
Rob Bliss (guy I worked with earlier)
L. DaVinci
Rembrandt
Frezzato
Odd Nerdrum (another norwegian artist)
Mucha
Gustav Klimt
Geoff Darrow
Jim Lee (in the Punisher days - b/w - this was his greatest stuff ever, in my opinion)
and it goes on and on... Still many I've probably forgotten..

I'd have to say my favorite artist is Syd Mead. In case your not familiar with him he does a lo of science fiction conceptual design. He works on movies a lot, designing the world of such for them. One of his most well known designs is for the movie Blade Runner. |
