I would have to say my father is my favorite, but he isn't famous. My first picture I ever drew that wasn't a copy of my dad's was a Frazetta pic, and the artist that got me drawing again is Jim Lee.

Massimiliano Frezzato!!! This guy absolutely RULES!!! I also love the work of Phil Hale. He is outrageously talented. Uhm- Brom kicks some major arse, as well. AND I must add Travis Charest. Unreal line work.

There are so many wonderful artists and so little room to name them all...but some that come to mind for me would be:
Norman Rockwell, Ian McCaig, Mas Frezzato, Frank Frazetta, Travis Charest, Juan Gimenez,
Masemune Shirow, Kazushi Hagiwara, Mucha, Brom, Ross, Bisley, Jim Lee, Joe Mad...the list goes on and on...Oh and who could forget
the traditional masters like Rembrandt, and the guys the Ninja Turtles are named after...

I have a million favorites (okay, maybe only a half million).
The dude I've been looking at the most recently is a cartoonist famous in the 20's named T.S. Sullivant.
Amazing stuff. Inspired a lot of the early Disney characters. (As did another favorite: Heinrich Kley).
I have a lot of his images in books, but there's not a lot on the net.
Maybe I'll scan a few.

wow, jason.. Bouguereau is quite incredible. I love the works of frazetta, brom, giger, mccaig, craig mullins, mucha. i've hardly ventured into the history of art tho, so these are pretty early opinions.. but i'm sure they'll last.

Wasn't familiar with Bouguereau, but really like his work. However, as I was looking at one of the pieces I noticed I'd seen it somewhere before uncredited. I guess its not that big of a deal, I just wish when someone copies a piece they'd credit the inital painter.

hmm for inspiration and inital spawning of whatever talent i have, is my mother, she was a painter, oils... made me want to draw.

As for out of touch artists... hmmm you know i have never really looked at historical art in depth to know what artists did what... that may seem pathetic, but maybe it jsut doesnt grab me like everyone else hehe i like Dali... and uhm... some painter guy who did art on a postcard i got once with mermaids on it... was beautiful...

hmm As for current... Alex Ross, Kevin Lau, Jim Lee (hehe ahh old swimsuit issues is where i learned to draw comics) Joe Mad, Scott Campbell... god the list goes on... That guy who draws E.V.E whom his name escapes me right now... And that guy who did the Sandman covers... see im bad with names haha. The Knave, Kitty Muzzle cept shes a little gory...

my alltime favorite artist (oldschool) is greko, cant remeber his first name...but i really like his choise (spellcheck) of colors. And adolf hitler did some good art, even tho he was a stupid as wanker (bad guys can be good at art to) im no rasist, just to point it out...mon� is good...i like the old school painters...not so much inspired by the "new" painters...even tho they are good, they dont have the same passion and tormation you can see in an old school pic.

The name is El Greco, but that's a kind of "nick name" like "Voltaire" or "Moli�re"... And I think you meant Monet, not Mon� :-P

My culture in terms of art is not very extended, but from the little I know I like Leonardo a lot, especially in his sketches, I am fond of Toulouse Lautrec, I really like Dali's work and ideas... I've seen examples of some of the other masters that have been named in this thread but I haven't looked at them enough to make a good impression.

For the modern stuff, again I don't know much, but I love Craig Mullins' stuff :-)

Someone should page spooge and get him to have a look at this thread when he needs an ego boost - I think this whole thread is quite a compliment to him, putting him up there along with Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Monet and all the rest :-P
