Nice idea but I think you need a bit more practice modeling.

My advice if you are planning on learning High poly modeling is to create it low poly first then you get the shapes and definitions. From what it looks like in your picture you've just taken cylinders and spheres to make the fingers. Basiclly there is no 'shortcut' for modeling you make each piece polygon at a time. So try and make a pig body at say 1000-1500 polys and see how you go. Also try the site http://www.polycount.com

Lots of people there who are a great support for modeling, animating and texturing.

Have Fun!

sorry to post this yet again, but here's a model I did from a cartoon version
it's the charecter Scud: the disposeable assasin from Fireman press' comics,

and the original charecter sheet from www.scud.com , obviously not mine

I dunno if this ilustrates anything but he's a 735 poly charecter made from a cartoon drawing, and using subdivisions I could easily convert him into a high poly charecter (after some work on hands and feet and such) but I think this is what Impus meant by working on low poly first (I have only started touching high poly and only through Nurbs/poly subdivision
