This is my first real digital painting (i did some coloring and 3D stuff but thats my first painted thing)
I wasnt at all going to make the portrait of this actor (let's see if you recognize who he is or if it is too crappy). I simply wanted to paint something for training before doing a real, full painting, so i decided to do a silly head simply from imagination. And after drawing the "final" hairs i thought it would be fun to edit it to make a protrait of this actor since it was looking like him
It is still obviously unfinished but i wanted to show you before going to bed so when i will continue drawing tomorrow i will have nice and useful advices from you (i hope )
well, here it is :
and here is the original face study i did from scratch (and imagination) before i choose to switch to the portrait
tell me your opinions and avices
PS : after i decided to do the portrait i used some photoreferences of the guy of course, but since i already did the lighting and orientation before it wasnt photo copy.

Good job so far. But it looks like the lips are way to thin and narrow and the ear is way to small. And maybe the forehead is also a little short, I think that might just depend on how you want it to look. |

Thanxs for the fast reply
yes the ear is totally unfinished, it is a bit too high and too short yes
for the forehead i know i have to lower in fact the eyebrow and eye-spaces a little, because the forehead os too short and nose too long
and for the lips it was intentional because i didnt manage to draw bugger lips whithout having a girly look ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

The ear is way too far up. I think you should move it down before you begin detailing it. Also, the hairline is a bit low. But it's looking really good so far. |

You are right Tinusch, the ear will definitely get changed, but for the hairline i dont know, i think the problem is the nose beeing too long ... but that will be a pain to change i think. You talented guys (and knowledgable), if you wanted to reduce the size of the nose and lowering a bit the eyes, what would you do ? redraw ? or use some rubber stamp and "easy" techniques ? |

Hi, the new version is better then the previous one, but let me tell you my opinion. so if you do a study, dont do it from your imagination. do it from a model, or copy a painting or even a photo,
and it is also a good thing to look beind the things, check the muscles, bones and stuff. that makes it study. so there are still some errors on the image, but i'm sure i will be able to correct them.
okay, so go on. |

hello inferno, I didnt mean "study" like the way you tel, in fact what i was going to do first was simply to paint something with form, light and shadow in mind (i have idea for full images i will do later but i wanted some first training before).
For anatomy i am studying some books, but anatomy wasnt my first concern with this pic first.
and when i saw that the thing was coming along nicely and a friend told me it looked a bit like david boreanaz, then i decided to try to do his portrait, and i used photoreferences but they wasnt with the same lighting or orientation, so i think it was an interesting exercice, i tried to see the photo in "3d" and redraw from another angle and light. |

Bring the chin down and just plain stretch the face up a little, keep the width though. Extend from the bride of the nose up and the lower lip down. pull the right eye out a little too, it seems stuck to the inside of the nose.
:mad im really pissed. |

Here is a nearly finished version , I am not completely satidfied with the overall look and ressemblance, but first it was just a silly exercice for me to learn lights and forms, if i had draw him from scratch from a photo it would be of course more ressemblant, but i wouldnt have learned what i wanted to
But for my first digital painting i must say im pretty happy, and thanxs you for the suggestions and crits, i tried to correct the ear and the forehead a little.
here it is :
