I swear to god, I'm 90% sure I will hate this movie from the deepest pits of my heart. Its almost impossible to make it even a 10th as good as the books.

Nex, and that is your (and thousands of others') problem.
The book and the movie CANNOT possibly be compared. No way, no how. It is obvious that a movie must make compromises and is limited by the format in so many ways that I won't even begin to list them.
If I am familiar (as I am with LoTR) with the original text, I at least try to have an open mind about the movie, and give it merit in its own field.
Come on, Jurassic Park anyone? How much did that movie suck in comparison to the book? A lot. But it's still an entertaining movie.
All I'm asking for is some open mindedness, 'cause I just can't be fucking bothered to listen to people whine about the movie being inferiour to the books, because it's obvious and unavoidable. I give the director much credit for having the balls to make LoTR in the first place.
*EDIT*: Retard boy strikes again!

I read the book titled Lord of the Rings and, sorry, but I was disappointed. Therefore I don't mind how the movie is.

However I think D&D could be a good movie, I just have to see a longer trailer, the one I've seen is not very good.

I'm reading The Fellowship of The Ring at the moment.

Regarding the film, I don't know what's sadder.

A) That it won't be a very good film.

or

B) As was reported in The Daily Telegraph: That Tolkien's family have had to go into hiding for their own safety.

I agree with Bradford. D&D is not a very good film. A friend from Singapore got it on DVD.

You would think that after various classics like Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and The Matrix that people would know how to make a decent action movie. Shame.

ceenda, what makes you think it will be a bad movie? I think they're handling the material in a very thorough, intricate, and caring manner. I for one am excited by what I've seen so far. Of course it could be a total bomb, but don't jump to any conclusions just yet. Like the Count says, keep an open mind.

I dunno, I got a fancy set of LOtR for Christmas, so I just finished rereading it. I think it's a fab trilogy and look forward to the movies just to see how someone else visualized what I did. It wont be as complex, obviously, but should be cool.

I'm open to the movie, I think it'll be sort of like the old Dune. If you take it along with the book, it's dung, but if you watch it as an oldschool sci-fi, it kicks ass.

As to D&D, that was filth. It was the worst garbage I've ever been obligated to see. I was so disapointed at the lack of:
a)story
b)interesting character
c)quality music
d)acting
e)CINAMATORAPHY

It was the most failure of all failures and I spit on it's grave.
.....I guess you can tell i read fantasy books and set high standards...heh..

D&D:

I saw D&D. Horrid...in every aspect. even the casting and graphics were bad.

The bad compositing stood out worse than a fat man in pink!

then there's the casting....come on, damon wayans in an action/fantasy movie?? get real.

The lines were pretty damn sad too. and everything was extrememly too predictable which took out any suprise elements what-so-ever.

Lord of the rings:

I read all the books and love em' to bits! its some of the best litterature. now...for the movies.

im not really expecting them to do the book a lot of justice. but seeing the trailer that shows some behind the scenes footage. it seemed pretty neat...but im still weary. they are going to need a bit more than new fancy technology to pull anything off.

the thing i think its going to be the downfall is again, like in D&D, the casting. People get casted for thier popularity only nowadays. so here is my list of a few people that might get casted due to the above:

Britney spears <-- if she can be *sigh* bothered.
Allyiah <---cause she showed in romeo must die that she can get more seats filled.
Ben Stiller <---he's already kinda short and hairy...could be bilbo.
Clint howard <---why not? he is in everything else.
John Goodman <----fat and miscolored we are my precious...*hissss* *hisss* "yes, my precioussssss"
The Wayans Brothers <---- one of them's gotta get a roll...they've got like 10 to chose from.
Kurt loader/Carson Daly - MTV people always seem to have chances.
Mike Meyers - casting directors thought proccess: "hehe, he's in. yeah baby, yeah!"

oh wouldn't that be dreadful if the above names actually made it in.....yes it would. it would be anarchy. but, it's probbally gonna happen. who wants to put money on it??

lets just hope the apocolypse comes first and there are no sneak previews.
