I see a newbie as more of one who lacks common sense, anyone can figure certain things out for themselves.
I know plenty of newbies that have been newbies for years and years. Some people just never get it their whole lives. I'm not talking about artistic ability, or talent, or skill, or other words that mean the same thing, I just mean the general globally-accepted way of interacting, if there is one. (ie: don't f!@&!$* message me on ICQ if I don't know you...that sort of thing, or don't ask me if you can have wAreZ copies of poser, because A: I don't have poser and B: I wouldnt wish a crappy program like poser on you even if your name was Stalin)
I am bitter.
PS: Do you like my run-on sentences? My English teachers woulda done been might proud of me, I reckon.

A newbie IS a moron.
Well I personally (the opinion of me, does not reflect anyone, anywhere, anytime) don't consider a first-time forum user a newbie. If they know what they're doing when it comes to digital-art, then they lost their newbiehood a long time ago.
Example: I stumble in the forum, I'm a new guy. I ask "do j00 have fotoshawp!?" or "I have a WACOM, and I also use emails!". I am a newbie.
I stumble in the forum, I'm a new guy. I give some opinions, I am helpful, my art is very professional. I am not a newbie.
Just the way I see it anyway :)

I agree somewhat with what you are saying >it is nice to have a forum where good artists can go and show off to people they respect artistically. I do however remeber the days when I thought I was a good artist and then reality slapped me in the face and I found I was a small fish in big waters...and a lot of people just starting out are the same way. I just wish that people who know there work is not up to par and see the really good artists post there work would hold back a little. I mean no one wants to be a dick and tell them they suck... |

uh uh.. my turn.
Do you guys mean newbies as in to the board/site? or art in general. I must say that I probobly visit this site on the daily basis and have been around on this site for a year.Every day I am short of breath from looking at all these great pieces. Now am I concidered a newbie on the board because I just recently have been posting a message? I don't have a wacom and find that painting with my mouse is a waste of my time. But I do have alot of traditional art I would love to show off, if I had some time to scan them.
Anyway just wanted some clarification.
Keep up the great work Dhab! Your board is number 1.

I don't think that the people who aren't as experiences as the really talented artists are throwing their artwork out because they think they kick ass. I think that these people want criticism and help devloping their style and skills. Isn't that what this board is all about? Helping others artists? Offering advice? Teaching? Learning?
I'm a little surprised that some people tend to think of it as a showcase for all the badasses. I think the people new to art tend to look at these really great pieces as inspiration, not competition. I doubt someone who's had a computer for 3 weeks is gonna slap their first digital self portrait up here and say, "HA! Beat that Craig!!"
Give the "newbies" a break. You were all newbies once too you know! ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

I think newbies are good. Hell, i'm a newbie to art, though i've got 2 hundred and sumtin posts.
Problem is, no one ever replies to posts because they get dragged down under. Hell, I've spent 3-9 hours on a pic only to have 1 person go..."yeah nice"
It's so hard to get constructive critism that's all i think. |

Gee...I guess we're just gonna have to suffer.
(meant that to be sarcastic)
I don't mind all the BEGINNER'S posts, with out them we wouldn't have anyone to threaten our positions and get our butt's in gear.
I just had lunch today with Bob Abrams, he animated the dragon in Sleeping Beauty, worked for Disney, and Warner Bros. Anyway he's got lots of experience in the industry and he told me when he was learning, his mentor told him, "I want you to want my job" that way he would become good and the mentor would have to become better to stay ahead of him.
My only complaint, more like wish, is that the really good artists would post more often.

Sorry that sounded dumb huhu, I had lunch wit Bob Abrams today. As if anyone cares
didn't mean to toss a name out, wasn't trying to sound cool or anything.
