Looks like veb removed the link to his tutorial. Maybe he will add it back.
JohnC: Boris is a bad word here. Just F.Y.I. |

There was a long thread about it awhile ago, but I can't find it. Maybe I'm just imagining things again. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Well, thats ok. I like Boris' work alot. I like artists for differnt things. I like Boris for his smooth technique, Frazetta for his dynamic action, Bisley for his chaotic and visual excitement and so on.
Oh well, Im not going to start a Boris discuussion. I would like to know the technique that VebJorn employs though. I couldnt find that tutorial either. |

You can enter my gallery section, and click on the thumbnail nr 4 at the bottom row, showing a closeup of conan holding a sword. Then press that, and when you get up the image, press it or the text at the bottom to enter the tutorial

Hi Veb,
I had a look at you webpage and love it.
Great job on the conan tutorial, really great drawing and colors. This picture doesnt hit on me even if i love otherwise your works.
it looks like the body is out of proportions
I dont know what it is if the legs are too fet or if the belt is messing it up for me. Her face and armor is real great, I like the BG too.
all the best
cheers

Hey.
hehhee um......how are you supposed to fight in that?
Is anyone else pondering what i'm pondering?
It's pretty un practicle.
Well good pic anyway.
I think it could use some more armour.

I do like the background and such on this one. But because i'm me i would add just a bit of leather on those legs.

Hey Liquid, I was wondering where to find such historical references ? I'm from this region and didn't even know that
I think reading historic novels/books are a great reference and a inspiration pond for us to dabble in.
Veb, as usual I really like your pick of colors. Pic is amazing and the others already have pointed out the crits
And one more for the veb folder eeheheee !
Oh btw, practice sketching ankles and feet I'm sure it'll somewhat free your style.. You won't have to make ultra dark ground/soil under your characters

I think its great. I like the loin cloth.
To me its not a matter of practicality, its a matter of visuals and art. I think the colors and composition are great. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

EGERIE - I would recommend literature concerning the middle ages and feudal history. Actually part of why Stephen and I did SoulSaga, because we both love the grittiness of that kind of environment. Books on the House of Habsburg, etc, would be useful too.
Otherwise, having the history channel running 24/7 isn't a bad idea either...

PS: Footnote conerning my previous rant. You ever wonder why the personal elite guards at the Vatican in Rome are Swiss only? That has its origins in the same history.

I read the thread and it seems that a fair number of people seem to take issue with her not wearing any pants, for either logical puposes, or stylistic ones.
Let me go on record as saying that I think it looks great the way it is. Heck, it wouldn't bother me if even the loin cloth was missing. I guess its mostly a matter of taste, however, to those of you that think its 'impractical', let me make just one point. In the middle ages the swiss were revered mercenaries all across europe. They were considered some of the finest and most ferocious fighters known to man, and any duke that kept them in his employ was considered a man not to be trifled with. However, the swiss weren't Knights riding around in heavy armor. They wore regular clothing with spot armor, and because of it were so much swifter than the cumbersome Knights in their full regalia, that they had an easy game with them. So keeping your legs free for maximum mobility is not illogical or even unheard of in history.
Now, it wouldn't have to be naked, you think? Well, that's a matter of personal choice. I personally feel that a 'warrior' that doesn't conform to standards of modesty is a character that isn't interested in their sexuality or hindered by it. It gives me the impression that they are a no-nonsense sort of character that truly only cares about being a great warrior, and thus only wears their sword and armor. Someone that takes their 'occupation' very seriously.
But that's just me.
I think people should be more open to this, rather than constantly commenting on the same issues on Veb's paintings. The nomads thread comes to mind as well. However, mostly, consider that its fantasy. That means maximum freedom in choosing your path of creativity without having to conform to what's practical necessarily.

Veb this work is very inspiring to me. I love fantasy art and I've been a fan of this type of art work since I was a child. The figure reminds me of Brom and the background reminds me of Dorian Vallejo's early work. Are you a fan of These artists?
The only criticism I would say is that the Knee area is a little low. |

Fixed some things. Added more thighs, enlarged and centered the head. Better?

Looks better veb, but the strokes you used to blend in the head I can see on my monitor. Around the neck area.
You know what you could do that would probably look cool. Is do a Witchblade picture with your style. Just an idea. |
