Did some fixing. Added a bit more thighs, enlarged and centered the head. Better?

I think her upper body seems a little off size wise-nice pic though. Don't any of these gals wear pants?! Seriously now, they did have pants in the Hyborian Age. Besides, women are more interesting/alluring with clothes ON. Again, good job

Outstanding work Veb!
I love the verticle movement in this image.
I wouldn't change the background, maybe touch it up some more. Give it some more depth etc. Great job over all.
One thing I noticed that bugs me tho, is the area under the knees. That flesh highlight on the outter most under the knees, it too bright. It's messing up your anatomy.
I like your use of color on this one. It's almost monochromatic. The bright skin tones stand out in a very nice surprising way.
I hope this is going to be used for a cover. It's very nice.
thanks for showing us.
Any chance on another tutorial, maybe on backgrounds?

Veb, that is wonderful, I don't even know what to say, everything you do is fantastic. I think its time to dabble in something from a different time period now, perhaps futuristic? I'd love to see that.

Very Nice. The Colours work really well and I like it. I wouldn't changed the background, just refine it some and add some detail. Something also bothered me about the hip on the left hand side, seems a little too jagged and doesn't look 100% right.

who would want to fight her? well maybe me *g* .. but I think the suit of 'armor' she is supposably wearing is suppose to be a distraction. Heh nice Veb, if you got some more time, upload some more tutorials

nice, i love the style and everythin, i think tho maybe the legs should be in a different position like maybe apart, or one up on a rock...

just personal opinion i guess, the divider thingy in the middle just kinda... make her look... something, i dunno, bugs me.

love the face

I would love to see a character of yours with some pants on for crying out loud. Nice design and background. Nothing too terribly original i guess, but it's an overal nice design. I like the feel of your pictures and the way you color them. Love the armour.

Vebjorn,

I love it! Wonderful picture!

Can I ask a few questions?

I'm pretty sure that you use Painter, but what brushes do you use?

I tried to paint a study of this picture and found that the only way I could even get close is with the Sable Oil brush followed by a LOT (A REAL LOT) of "Water/Just Add Water" brush to smooth out my paint.

What actual technique with the brushes do you use?

I don't understand how to get that cool highlighting on the metal pieces. It's just a black silouette with bright highlights, but how do you know where to put them?

Thanks a million!

Codexier

This is my favorite of all your pics so far. I think it is because of the colors you chose and I really like the background.

Oh just one other thing... her head is off center.

VERY NICE! ... but I dont even see the point of her wearing that thing between her legs! Not that she should run around naked... but it doesnt seem to help hide anything or keep anything warm ect.. and also it seems like she would trip over that thing! Losing your balance win running through a forest with razor sharp armor... very dangerous!

Veb,

Keep it up, very nice work. Don't have a lot to say in terms of crit (don't feel worthy 'nuff) other than her legs look a wee bit too big for her 'frame'.

Can't wait for something new.

Cheers

Not that I'm qualified to crit, either, but I've got a couple comments... First, I'm going to have to agree with a few others who've said that she doesn't have enough.. protection... I think she needs something covering her thighs and/or waist area.. Second, I have to point out that her knees where they meet the boots are horrifyingly disfigured... Otherwise, though, I love the pic.. I really dig the punky green lips...

Fan-Friggin'-tasic! Keep it up! Your work provides not only encouragement and inspiration to those on the forum, but keeps up the insistance that digital art can look like traditional art!

Cool pic Vebjorn, I like the background, very atmospheric. The detail on the swords and armour is what really catches my eye. The only thing that I can see that looks wrong is her head and that it looks too small for her body. I count the head going into the body 8 times.

as usual awesome job
I like nearly everthing on this pic
-the armor-the sword-the face-the hair
and your''sorta thrown background''

hhhmmmm but I think that the center line of the sword (she is holding in her left hand)
is a bit displaced on the left part of the pic ( even if the sword is curved)

Thanks for the comments!!!

I saw some of the flaws mentioned and I`ll do something about them later.

The brushes I used in painter are 99% camel hair-opaque bristle spray. Variations in size, opacity and features. I usually, even on small detail areas have some feature to avoid getting a to perfect line.

forgot some of your question....

Making metal is one of the things that comes very naturally for me(opposed to hands and feet)...I hardly need to think. I feel exactly where to put the highlight and which colors are needed it look like metal/silver, bronze or gold.
Main shine ingredient i to have a tone in the highligh, and a very sharp contrast to the surrounding colors.

As for painting in painter...no smudging!(it only works ot a certain degree in photoshop)
Just use more or less opacity and features.

Great picture veb

The head does seem a little to small and placed a little low. Great use of colors! and the composition is nice. I would have liked a little more action in the pose... right now it has too much of that 'kodak-moment' feel to it.

awesome nonetheless. Your skill in Painter is just so inspiring..

Wow!. I just checked out your website and your work in Painter is simply Amazing!

Your work has a very strong Boris, Ken Kelly feel to me.

I am just now getting ready to start my first painting in Painter. I drew a sketch of this really scary creature and I will use it to learn with.

Fantasy art in the style of Boris, Frazetta, Ruyo and Bisley are my greatest inspiration. I am amazed to see what can be done in Painter. I had no Idea this program can be used to create such wonderful art.

I did have a question I was hoping you could help me with. Since I am new, can you give me a rough breakdown on exactly how you create one of your digital paintings? Do you start with a scanned pencil drawing, color in background, then work on head etc? I honestly have no idea how its done.

I am failiar with Boris vallejo's technique. Would it be easy to copy his technique in the digital realm. Do a burnt umber type underpainting and then start painting in transparent paints, buliding layer upon layer?

Thanks! and keep up the good work.
