Yeah, I dunno why my scanner doesn't pick it up-the scanner was wayyy off, making it really red. A few level/hue changes and I got this, but it's still not perfect. If I brighten it or increase the contrast it gets even worse. Bah!

Mine comes in a few days too.

I think i'll cry when it arrives.

If I could make one Cornwell esqe brush stroke I'd die a happy man.

The guy could stroke it.

Cornwell is dead. All we have left is this book and some various existing paintings, nothing else. He was a god, and left handed mind you...

THe book is 60 or 75 dollars. I know amazon had a special price but I am unsure if that is still existing.

He primarily painted in oils, but worked in every medium. Most of his paintings were fairly large, and the end results were made up, from all the reference he worked from, so the painting painted itself, instead of following photographic reference. This is really how a painitng should be done. Look at Rockwell and Leyendecker, Mcginnis, Mead Scheaffer, Harvey Dunn, N.C. Wyeth, Remington, etc. photos and models and props to inspire, the imagination to finish the image. And sound composition skills...damn the man is good...

Is this book go over his drawing/painting skills-tricks-ideas of Dean Cornwell? Or is this just a collection of his work in one book?

I'm trying to get more knowledge on Human Anatomy, would this be a good book to look over?

I made a post down the forum of some sketches, if anyone could take a gander at them and point some stuff out that would be wonderful.

Heres the link if you want to buy the book mentioned here.

Dean Cornwell : Dean of Illustrators

Thanks for any info...

I was so obsessed with his art in college that I went through almost all the issues of Cosmopolitan on micro film from the year 1920 to 1930 just looking for his paintings.

I also went to New York not only to see the city but also mainly to see his paintings at the Illustration House Museum.

I really need to paint more.

Just got it from Amazon. Bloody amazing art eh? Guy's something else, and I thank you for the tip on the book. I would highly recommend this to anyone who's even remotely into art-the power and skill with which he draws and paints is inspiring to say the least. I've taken the liberty to scan a couple pics. You'll have to excuse the color image-I can't get my damned color calibration right, but I tried to adjust the colors in Photoshop as much as I could, but in the book it's brighter, more vibrant.

Check out the rendering on the arm of the couch. Beautiful brush work. I'm a newbie to the world of Dean Cornwell, never been a fan. Maybe I should pick the book up as well.
