"Awesome pictures !! now lets see some color work.."
I seem to be reading a lot of that around this board,
I was wondering, is color really THAT important in work? I mean look at people like Micke and Visigoth and they have amazing works which work just as well with no or minimal color use thing is, why are people obsessed with color? sometimes color can even hinder a picture

oppinions? examples? corrections?
oh and here's my latest piccie

made completely with the prismacolor markers brushset in painter, (since I can't affoard real markers

I totally aggree. Not everything should have color.

I would like to see darker darks and lighter lights in this piece. I don't think you go all the way to black which I think would help the power of the piece.

Some pics work without color. Some don't. If the pic is grayscale or B&W and looks complete as is, then people will probably commend you on it. But if it's grayscale or B&W and looks like it needs color to improve it, then you'll get that suggestion. It's a valid critique, I think. Just as valid as pointing out how to improve a pic's composition.

color is just another element in art. it's like the difference between a 50 word vocabulary and a 500 word vocabulary. there is just more to express WITH when you have that extra element: color.

Chumps... sometimes, more words dosnt mean better words... seriously though, I've known /seen some great B&W artists who never felt the need to do color, and some of the most expressive drawings ever are in color, sometimes the lack of color helps ephasize other elements in the drawings... and most people (read: beginners) like using color just as a crutch... can't get the values quite right, lets pour a bit of color in here to fix it right up.... I think color has it's place, but it's in no way a necesity or a mark of quality.

ooh and lator, I checked out that picture on a computer at school, ends up you'r right, but my monitor's miscalibrated so I need to fix that still that is done with the 90% and 20% marker tools most of the time (very little mid tones)
