neat. whether or not it would work would depend on the content layout and interface of course.... that looks like it would be good for a CD-ROM |

Some of the things I noticed right off.
Takes too long to load. If it takes this long to load without text, navigation and what ever else, just imagine what it would be like with all the other stuff on it.
Will this fit an 800x600 screen size? (general public viewing size). People are lazy and they don't want to scroll. For some reason it's too hard for them to move their mouse while holding down a button.
the idea is really nice. How about putting some holes in that sheet, it would give more character. You could use the holes for roll-overs.
The black background is giving an effect of a void. And your edges should never touch the edge of the screen. It causes visual tension. Unless that is something you're wanting, I would suggest changing that. (I'm referring to the right most edge of your graphic)
Be careful with your colors, You're limiting your font color to black or dark browns by using that yellow. Try to think of a whole color scheme for your site before you start doing the graphics. It will look much better.
Good luck with it. I think with a little bit more work, you could have a very nice site with this idea.

oh yeah, and something else I thought of.
How about changing the way you have the wood planks. Do you think you could angle them more so they are not so straight. As if it's more run down. Right now, it's pretty static and doesn't make us look more than once. It's screaming for character and life.

There is a way you could make that work and be a great deal smaller in download size. Once I made a web page with a boarder around it much like your attempting now. First off, make your base texture for the paper. Make it tileable so it can just repeate. It might look fine as low at 64x64 just play around with it. Once you have that add the wood plank into the texture on all the sides. You wouldnt need special case tiles except for corners. By using the base tile to first work with you would make sure it matches up with the others as long as it tiles the same amount of times. A table would probably be best for this but it all depends on if you want it to scroll or not. It could work within frames but frames work different in netscape than IE. Hope that spawns some idea's.
