hi,
just did this drawing of a mechanical hornet, scanned it in and colored it --- what do you think of it?

Nice work, I like the shape, but you could spend more time to work on the texture and maybe a metalic look ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Looks nice so far. I'd like to see some background on it, though.
What I think you should do next would be adding very bright highlights on it. The shading looks a bit flat since most of the pic is colored with middle values. It has some good dark shadows but needs highlights as well. Remember to decide where the light is coming from, first, and then shade appropriately.
Did you think about making the wings transparent? Might look cool.
Shading more strongly will make the pic a lot better! And don't forget the background, even finished pics look often stupid on a white background...

robert:
yeah, i always have trouble with making something look metallic -- maybe if someone had tips for me on how to do this?
gecko:
about the background: this picture is basically only a colored sketch for a unit of our game, so the guy who makes the model knows what colors to use
i'll try to add more brighter areas, sounds reasonable
the idea with the transparent wings is great, i hope it's gonna work in the gameengine as well
thanks for the replies so far. i'll post a new stage of the picture later ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Yeah, the shading is better in this version. Take a look on the work of Strangfate, he is an awsome texture artist: http://www.planetquake.com/Strangefate/ this might help you ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

it doesn't look like a hornet to me :|
more like a winged snake. with small wings.
but enough of that for now. |
