hey, was just lookin to see if there was anyone like me that posted a pic, but had no responses so far, and there you were.. Anyway, now that I'm here I'll go ahead an give ya some crits.

I know you said this pic is still in progress.. but it's in need of some contrast and more color variation. You've established a bit of lighting already, now go ahead and work that stuff to really make things *pop*, as my art teacher would say.

Next crit is about the gun, the main problem that I see when people draw characters holding guns is the placement of the trigger finger. The trigger usually rests in the inner *groove* created by the bending of the last joint of the finger, right now you have the trigger under the second to last joint and that just doesn't work when you're holding a gun.. I have a small pistol right here with me and when I situate my hand to a point where the trigger rests under the second joint it totally throws the aim of the gun off because it causes the gun to be held slightly sideways in the hand. Anyway.. move the trigger of the gun up a bit in the picture so that the first segment of the guys finger is alligned vertically, the second or middle segment of the finger should be at basically a 45 degree angle, and the last segment or the finger tip should be horizontal.

There are a few anatomy problems on the figure, and your background could use some work. Francis did a really cool pic of bobba fett bout a week ago I think, it had some good terrain that was along the same theme as your's, you might wanna take a look at it an see how he went about rendering the landscape.

Anyway, hope some of this helps, I'll be looking forward to seein the finished product.

hi striker,

yea the lighting hasnt been worked on yet, i tend to put heavier shadows to bring it out more towards the end, maybe i should figure it out more at the start..

You are right about the trigger, thatwas bothering me too. I could see it didntlook right but wasnt sure if the finger shoulda been bent back more or if the trigger piece was too much to the left. probably both now i look at it again..

Thanks for noticing that, I wanted to get some good advice early on and get the pic looking more right before i got into more detail, it'd be harder to change then..

anyways, thanks for the advice

Hi Cos!
Actually the guy in your painting looks like Joachim, hehe!
You have a good start. I would say the armor is'nt too convincing, but that's just my personal taste(always bitching about stuff like that). Where do you wanna go with the painting? Realistic? Cartoon? something in between? One thing you could do is too
add stronger shadow and contrasts in order to make it more dramatic. Also just get rid of the white areas would also help quite a bit. There are some anatomical
and proportion problems. The head seems
too small and the shoulders too wide.
I could try to do a quick example.

Cheers,
Mikael

hehe, that's me
Looks nice cos. I agree with micke on the coloring thing. I said this to you before I think, but it need more variation in the colors, like red lips, cheeks, some subtle differences. Also, if it's supposed to be realistic shading, you need to make the materials more convincing, with light and texture...I can try to mock up something if I get the time..

hi micke! i kinda wanted a semi realistic look to it. Kinda like
the style u guys did for the gunman cover although theres no way
i could pull that off, as close as i can get it would be cool
i think you are right bout the head being too small, i have a habit
of doing bodys like three times the size they should be hehe. I
wasnt all that happy with the armour either.. theres alot I dont like
on this pic so far really.. hmm, if u could do a quick example that
would be the best man, I'm sure that would really really help me out..

heya Joachim (or should I start calling you Blaine now?? hehe
yeah i do remember you telling me about putting more subtle variation
of colours in the skin tone, that is something im not that good with..
should pratise it, have u got any tips on that? like using brush
options like multiply or softlight to subtley blend them in?? probly
a stupid question, If you got the time I would really appreciate
seeing your mockup version.

Thanks alot for helping out guys!
