Hi there.
I showed some of my Painter pics to a friend who ... told me that I should go back to using Photoshop. Of course, this is fair enough, but I would like advice from the many people on this board (for instance vebjorn and Jason Manley) who have managed to get such impressive results from this package. Painter is great fun and I would like to keep using it but I'm more than happy to go back to Photoshop. I just don't feel that I'm 'painting' in Photoshop.

First of all... AWESOME CLOUDS.
There is no clear cut answer to the photoshop vs painter question. The best answer is to use the one you like best, or use both. It doesn't matter what brand of brushes you're using, if you paint like Raphael

I dunno why but..
I think that cloud looks cute
looks nice ceenda. I dig your work. I think that you should just go for whatever program that suits you right. Then again, why just use one program? Use both!

ceenda,
those clouds are incredible!!!
my advise is use which ever you enjoy, they are compatable with each other.. so... have fun.
Unless of course you run out of paint in one or the other...:eek
I just hate when that happens

I think you should use both. When you are in a 'photoshop' mood, use PS, when you feel like painting, go to painter.
A lot of the pics I see done with painter seem more expressive, but with photoshop you can get really good results as well. It looks as though you know both programs well, so just do whatever.
Those clouds look so white and puffy I just want to touch them

I just cant believe how much youve improved! Great clouds, really like the crisp/blurry edge contrast. Did you use a photo as a reference, or is it a plen air study? |

Thanks to everyone for their comments! Painter is certainly alot of fun.
I really enjoy doing reference pics like this(this was from an encyclopedia section on clouds). However, I want to start doing more fantasy / sci-fi pics and I'm not sure if doing reference painting is the best way to achieve more realistic sci-fi pics. I find it hardest doing a background and then trying to put the foreground over it.
Once again, thanks for the comments everyone.
