Firstly, I will be amazed if anyone can name the game I'm thinking of. Anyone apart from a certain Glaswegian who sometimes frequents these boards...
Here's a clue, it was made by Psygnosis, was inspired by the paintings of Roger Dean (who did the cover art) and was released on Speccy, C64, ST and Amiga.
Stats:- 4 hours (solid), Painter Classic.

Really dig the background, those spier like rocks are comin along nicely. That purple creeping in on the right may need to be justified with some placed elsewhere to compensate.
Overall I'm liking it.
Is it finished?.......and give us the name of the game, there's a chance I had it within my pile of two hundred virus ridden Amiga games.

looks nice! I've never seen the game so I'm not sure who or what it is. the characters left arm does look to elongated. There are muscles in the top part of the arm and the bottom part, but in between doesn't look right. It tapers in too much. But that could be the character. I don't know.

background rules, and shadow of the beast is one of the best games I played on the amiga. Only in version III the maincharacter has a potatohead ..
Played the game 2 months ago, with a Amiga emulator for pc, great stuff.

Sempere, Superbug, Ko, Jaymo, chalker: Well done guys! It is, of course, Shadow of the Beast. However, as someone pointed out, the character should be grey.
Thanks to everyone for their comments/crits.
By the time I had finished the background I kinda skimped on the main character (mind you, how it took up half the time I'll never know...).
I saved the background to a different file, so I'll probably re-do the foreground and get the composition and anatomy right. Now that I think of it, the character really doesn't fit the background.
aNoah: I used the Ultrafine Wash Brush and switched between bristle and circular brush settings.
Jaymo: Download the music to all 3 games at http://gamemusic.siliconcircus.co.uk
chalker: Are you sure that wasn't just his Indiana Jones style hat?
Here's the original background at full rez:-

Grey with some red I think. But only in the first game, not? I remind a greener beast with different style from the sequel.

Without looking at the other posts [honest] Shadow of the Beast, think I only ever played it once. Anyway, nice pic I like the bg and the colours you've used.
