The character will be standing in the rain so please post any rain digital images that you have created or know of. I'm just looking for ideas as I'm not sure how to go about it. (I've seen dhab's one)
I'm just working on this image that I want to digitally paint but I thought I'd get some comments on how this image looks. To a fresh set of eyes, what are things that you notice, either good or bad?! (I used 9 source photos to get the look I was going for).

Im as new as new gets. And it stinks.
Regardless, you might want to...ah, soften that nose a bit. And add a leeeetle bit more to that upper lip.
Unless the shapes intentional. In which case, woik away Cant wait to see the finished piece. |

Damn, thats one ugly woman I wouldnt want to wake up beside! *shrug*
Thought it was a troll-like male character before I scrolled down to her chest... Now Im not saying your sketch looks bad, just the woman you chose to draw, so no offense.

i do agree that her nose is a bit large, but thats just a personal preference.
she needs more upper lip too, yes, or it needs to be defined or something.
something about the back of her head bothers me a bit, kinda like her head is flat on the back. u might want to add a bit more forehead too, unless thats the look ur going for.
i like the clothing, with the wrinkles and stretching i always have problems doing that. its a great sketch, better than i can do.

Thanks for all the comments as the feedback has been quite useful.
1) Shaded - found it interesting that you didn't like it but them wanted to see a finished version.
2) CSM - fair enough comment about the 'beauty' aspect. I guess the facial expression that I was going for was one that wasn't really anything. It could be happy, sad, indifferent etc but I don't think I've pulled it off that well.
3) YourMum - well the glance wasn't intentional. Having another look at it, I think the squinting eye is crap and needs changing and the mouth expression needs work
4) LethargicBoy - it is interesting that a notion of 'beauty' has come up. I used 9 different photo references and tried to make sure the structure gelled. Do we have narrow preconvinced notions of beauty?! ['we' as in society as a whole]
5) nightmare - yeah the nose is a little large and I think I'll tone it down a little (although it is still a prominate feature. The upper lip was an interesting one. while it isn't the standard, I actually have a friend with a very small one and where I got the idea from. Back of the head being flat - well I'm going to have the character in the rain with hair soaked. Usually when this happens, hair isn't as 'full' as when it is dry. Clothing is something I also have a problem with and it was drawn from 3 different sources so hopefully I'll be able to pull it all together.
thanks for your comments and keep'em coming.

Although I (and many people with me for sure) prefer looking at beautiful women, a more "down to earth" woman on the border to being ugly might be the better choice in this case. Im sure the picture will stand out more from the crowd of "babe-drawings", and bring the focus more to the artistic side. Kudos to you for your choice and the best of luck.

Just one comment. Her forehead's a bit squished.
the eyes generally should be in the center of the head. something like this
keep workin on it.

Following a few suggestions I've made some changes (wish i had more time - stupid exams). CSM thanks for your comments. I was going to change it to a 'traditional' babe but after seeing your comments I thought otherwise. I am trying for more of a 'girlnextdoor' type character. I think this is a better choice.
Thanks Dean for your quick red overally. You are quite right and I've made the head a tad bit bigger. Looks a little funny but once I get 'painting', I'll refine the top left hand corner of the hair as it just doesn't look right.
Keep the comments coming as they are really invaluable at this stage when I'm still attempting to get the structure right.
