I havent had my camera long, but the compression thing sounds interesting. at a compressed image, I get 467 images - cool. I'll have to go checking that out tomorrow.

Ive got the Pentax Optio 550 pretty good for me, for the same reason - textures, but it's above your budget, but I got mine cheaper on ebay, brand new. worth a look. I managed to save about 250USD off ...

Ive done work for print (posters/billboard) and found that 300 is fine. I guess it depends on what you intend to do with the image.

Has anyone actually *needed* to print higher than 300?

Ive had a similar jittering problem before - it was the USB port. I just switched to the pin port and it's fine.
