I dont use the typical dodge and burn method I like the dodge and burn layer setings better. Or take an unshaded color picture, make a copy of it, desaturat the first copy, set one that still colored ... |

um well, i think you should clean up the line art before you color. That always helps me out. You need also to define a light source. A dramatic pose like that needs dramatic lighting.
