could You show some examples? single clouds are quite easy to do. Sky is much more difficult sometimes.
Pay attention to your edges. If you paint on paper try to use dry brush.

i think you need more practise in real sketching.
Forget the tools...you can sketch with everything. Pen,brush,...even palette knife.
Just be loose and learn how to see/record, not how to move your ha ...

it's to blurry.
You should add some hard edges..especially to the leaves to make it more realistic and comfortable to the eye.
You could also widen your range of values.

digital painting has not much to do with oil technique....maybe that's the reason you cant feel the digital brush....?

Dr-Mad: try to stay in rather limited/narrow pallete.
for example: if you see some warm colors on the face use orange,red...some brown...and mix them to achieve more variation.
