I know I like a painting when I want to walk into it and nose around for a while. I really want to follow that path to the mountains (I'm sure I'd find a rat somewhere!).

I'm pretty sure a tortilla is just masa meal, salt and water flattened out and grilled in a dry sautee pan. If that doesn't work try cross-hatching. images/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I like this composition better because of the flip. Or maybe it's just me. I read somewhere that those of us who read in the western (left to right) tradition, tend to more easily "read" a left to r ...

I'd say to finish the first one. The others look like good practice on facial planes and proportioning. In the first I can see a painting develop, as you are being mindful of a few balancing techniq ...

Very good, but I agree the building looks off. If you look at the center-most pillars, the lit one on the left is set back farther than the right one. Other little peculiarities occur as you come tow ...

Great pics Farin! I like the mood they invoke. Ian gave some great advice. It seems like a lot to think about, but little by little it will all come naturally as you paint. *goes back to noodling*

I've worked some on the crits. The blotchy parts are mostly my left-over sketch which I'm still ironing out. The medallion I think, still needs work or a total redo, maybe with a ref next time.

I like it! The colors look a little saturated, but in this case it adds a visual distortion that feels like heat. Reminds me of the old "Dune" novel covers.

If that's a cave, then the object in the upper left is confusing my eye. I guess I was adding it to the BG and trying to rationalize what it could be.
